Final Review and Publishing
What to do
Do one last full review of everything you've entered, then click Publish Your Book to send it live.
Why it matters
This is the last point where you can catch a mistake before your book is publicly visible for sale. After publishing, KDP still lets you make changes, but a live listing with an error is more visible than one caught before it goes public.
Step-by-step
- Re-read your title, subtitle, description, keywords, and categories one more time on the review screen, exactly as they'll appear to a shopper.
- Confirm your pricing and royalty selections are what you intended for every format you're publishing.
- Confirm you've already reviewed your online previewer and, ideally, a physical proof copy for any printed format.
- Click Publish Your Book. KDP will show your book's status as In Review, this usually takes a matter of hours up to a couple of days for a first review.
- Once your status changes to Live, your book is publicly for sale. You can still make updates (a new cover, a fixed typo, a new description) any time afterward, each update goes through its own quick re-review.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Publishing before actually looking at the physical proof copy or the online previewer, just to move faster.
- Assuming Live status means the book will definitely sell or that Amazon is endorsing its content or quality; Live only means it passed KDP's content and formatting review and is now available for purchase.

Troubleshooting
My book has been In Review for longer than expected. Is something wrong?
Review times can vary and occasionally take longer than the typical window, especially during high-volume periods. If it's been significantly longer than KDP's stated typical review time on their Book Status help page, check your Bookshelf for a specific message, or contact KDP support directly rather than re-publishing.
Can I un-publish a book once it's Live?
Yes, you can unpublish a book from your Bookshelf at any time if you decide not to sell it anymore. This removes it from sale but doesn't delete your KDP account data.
