Terms of Use
Updated October 28, 2026
Step One 2 Published, operated by Teri Busse, provides educational guidance and browser-based tools for authors preparing their own books.
Using the guidance
You may use the lessons, reference pages, and calculators while preparing your own work. You remain responsible for your publishing decisions and for checking the current requirements of your printer or distributor. Step One does not publish, approve, edit, or distribute your book for you.
Software interfaces, platform rules, and prices change. Examples and calculated dimensions are aids, not a guarantee of acceptance or print quality. Compare cover measurements with the official template for your edition, review the exported files, and order a physical proof before approving a printed book.
Your work and saved progress
You retain your rights to your manuscript and other original work. This website does not ask you to upload a manuscript and does not acquire rights to it through your use of the guides.
There are no visitor accounts. Checklist progress and your program choice stay in the browser on your device. Browser cleanup, private browsing, or device changes can erase or separate that progress. Keep your manuscript and important publishing records backed up independently.
Costs and outside services
This website currently does not take payments or charge for browsing its guides and local tools. Separate software, ISBN purchases, printing, proof copies, and publishing services may charge their own fees. Follow their current terms and prices when using them.
Links to outside websites are provided as references. Those sites control their availability, content, accounts, purchases, and privacy practices. A link is not a promise that an outside service will accept your book.
Reasonable use and limits
Use the site lawfully. Do not try to disrupt the service, compromise security, or misuse someone else’s personal information or copyrighted work.
The site is provided as available. We do not promise uninterrupted service, error-free information, acceptance by a publishing platform, sales, or royalties. The material is general education and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional on legal, tax, or financial matters. Nothing here excludes rights or obligations that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.
Contact and updates
Questions or corrections? Email Step One. We may revise these terms as the service changes and will update the date above. Review significant changes before continuing to rely on a changed service.
