Proofing, Pricing & Selling Your Lulu Magazine

← All Lulu publishing options: books, coil binding, bookstore & distribution

What to do and why it matters

Review the uploaded files, order a physical test copy, and decide where readers will buy the issue. An attractive screen preview cannot confirm paper feel, printed color, or whether small type is comfortable to read.

Review before announcing the issue

  1. Inspect Lulu’s preview. Check every page, the cover panels, trim, folds, and page numbering. Correct source files and upload again if something is wrong.
  2. Order a physical copy. Check contrast, image sharpness, captions, cut edges, binding, and inside covers. Allow time and money for printing, shipping, and revisions.
  3. Confirm the price and payee. Review the displayed production cost and estimated earnings. Lulu’s print revenue split applies to profit after applicable costs, not simply to the whole selling price.
  4. Choose the listing’s visibility. Keep a test project private while reviewing it. For a public sale, complete the retail setup and verify the finished product page.

Three ways to reach readers

Click to expand for more information.

Link to your Lulu Bookstore listing

Publish an available listing and put its product URL on your own website as a Buy the Magazine button. Checkout happens on Lulu. A normal link does not require building a shop or connecting a payment processor to this Step One site. Test the listing and checkout availability before announcing it.

Sell through your own integrated store

Lulu Direct offers ecommerce integrations. This is a separate setup from a simple product link and can involve store, payment, or service costs. Step One does not install a store, process orders, or manage subscriptions for you.

Global retail distribution

Do not assume Lulu printing means an Amazon or Ingram listing. Eligibility depends on the product. Lulu specifically excludes saddle-stitch projects from Global Distribution, although they can still be sold in the Lulu Bookstore. Check eligibility before promising retail availability.

Costs and final checks

Use the current calculator for your exact specifications and inspect shipping and taxes at checkout. Budget for proofs and corrections. Do not treat a promotional starting price as your finished magazine’s price. A sale listing also does not automatically create recurring billing for future issues.
