Troubleshooting
KDP rejects a custom full-wrap cover even though the dimensions look correct
How you'd notice this
You've double-checked your cover's dimensions against KDP's cover template for your trim size and page count, they match, and KDP still rejects the file during upload or misrenders it in the previewer.
Why it happens
Design programs can leave layers, transparency, effects, or fonts in the exported PDF that cause KDP's processing or previewer to reject or misrender the cover, even when the overall page dimensions are exactly correct. The file can look completely fine on your own computer and still fail on KDP's end because of what's underneath the visible layout, not the size.
How to fix it
- First verify the cover dimensions match KDP's exact cover template dimensions for your book's trim size, page count, paper type, and bleed.
- Already checked your dimensions? Try flattening the PDF. A custom cover can look completely correct on your computer and still be rejected by KDP because of layers or transparency in the exported file.
- Export or save the flattened version as a print-quality PDF.
- Re-upload the flattened file to KDP and run the Print Previewer again.
- Before approving, visually inspect the entire cover, front, back, spine, bleed, barcode area, and all text.
- This is troubleshooting guidance, not a guarantee, flattening resolves this specific cause but not every possible reason KDP can reject a cover.
