Distribution Channels Reached Through Draft2Digital
What to do
Understand which retailers and library platforms a single Draft2Digital upload actually reaches, and how Amazon fits in, as of now, D2D only offers Amazon distribution by invitation, so most authors still rely on a separate KDP account for the Amazon side.
Why it matters
This is the entire point of using Draft2Digital in the first place: one upload, one set of metadata, and D2D pushes your ebook out to many places at once instead of you creating and managing a separate account with each retailer individually.
Step-by-step
- As of now, Draft2Digital's distribution network includes major ebook retailers such as Apple Books, Kobo (including Kobo Plus), and Barnes & Noble, plus other stores like Bookshop.org, Tolino, and Everand.
- As of now, it also reaches library-lending platforms, which KDP and IngramSpark alone generally don't get you into as directly. OverDrive, Hoopla, cloudLibrary, BorrowBox, and Vivlio Libraries are among the ones D2D currently distributes to, meaning your ebook can become available for people to borrow through their local public library's digital collection, not just buy.
- Some of these retailers and library platforms are direct partnerships D2D has negotiated itself, reached automatically once you opt in and your file passes its validity check; others may carry their own extra requirements (for example, some retailers don't accept certain content types). Check Draft2Digital's own current partners page for the exact up-to-date list and any per-retailer requirements, since retailers get added or occasionally removed over time.
- As of now, Draft2Digital's Amazon distribution is invite-only, so for most authors, getting a book onto Amazon still means setting up and publishing through KDP directly, covered earlier in this stage. If your goal is to reach ebook retailers and library platforms beyond Amazon, in one upload, that's exactly what Draft2Digital is built for, but always confirm current Amazon availability on D2D's own partners page or FAQ before assuming either way, since this kind of partnership can change.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Draft2Digital automatically puts your ebook on Amazon along with everywhere else, as of now, D2D's Amazon distribution is invite-only, so most authors still need their own separate KDP account and setup, covered earlier in this stage.
- Assuming every retailer or library platform in D2D's network is guaranteed to actually list or promote your book, distribution means it's made available to those platforms, not that any one of them is required to feature, sell, or lend it.

Troubleshooting
Does Draft2Digital's distribution overlap with KDP's Expanded Distribution or IngramSpark's network?
There's some overlap in spirit (all three aim at getting a book beyond a single retailer), but the actual channels differ. KDP's Expanded Distribution is mainly about other retailers being able to order your paperback through Amazon's print system. IngramSpark's strength is wholesale print distribution to bookstores and libraries. Draft2Digital's strength is ebook retailers and ebook/audio library-lending platforms specifically. Using more than one isn't redundant, see the comparison topic at the end of this walkthrough.
Can Draft2Digital get my ebook onto Amazon some other way?
As of now, Amazon is only available through D2D by invitation, it isn't a checklist option every author can opt into. Unless you've specifically been invited, publishing on Amazon still means setting up and publishing through KDP directly, covered at the start of this stage. Check Draft2Digital's own current FAQ/partners page to confirm the latest status, since this kind of partnership can change.
